Overview of Audio Modeling – SWAM String Sections v1.6.4 & Mac

SWAM String Sections is an innovative set of four plugins – Violins, Viola, Cellos, and Double Basses – created using Audio Modeling’s exclusive physical modeling technology.

Core technologies and architecture

 Hybrid Physical Modeling

Combines physical modeling, sample morphing, and behavioral modeling to mathematically calculate sound instead of simply playing back audio files.

Ensemble Sizes

Includes four separate plug-ins – Violins (4 to 6 players per section), Violas (3 to 5 players), Cellos (3 to 5 players), and Double Basses (3 to 5 players).

Humanization

Automatically introduces subtle differences in body position, string tension, bow motion, timing, intonation, and timbre between individual virtual players to recreate the sound of a real ensemble.

Anti-Phase Communication

Sections intelligently communicate with each other to prevent phase cancellation when playing chords or layering multiple sections.

Real-time control and articulation

Expression and Dynamics

Requires a continuous controller (e.g., expression pedal, breath controller like CC2, or MIDI fader/CC11) for real-time dynamics and attack adjustments.

Articulations

Smooth real-time transitions between legato, staccato, staccato, portamento, pizzicato, and tremolo (fast or unsynchronized) are supported.

Advanced Bow and Tone Settings

Adjust bow position (center, ponticello, sultasto), bow pressure (hard, flotando), overtones, and vibrato speed and depth on the fly.

MIDI and MPE Support

Compatible with standard MIDI controllers, MPE devices, breath controllers, and touch interfaces (e.g., iOS/AUv3 apps).

Ambiente room simulator

Virtual Space

The program includes a built-in room acoustics simulator (“Ambiente”), which allows you to place and position each string section in a virtual 3D room.

Acoustic Configuration

Change the room size, wall absorbent materials, and microphone placement to unite the sections into a single orchestral space.

System requirements

  • WIN 10+ / macOS 10.13+

    1. I have tried this string section on my PC and its plays all distorted sound! Any idea why, as all other swam libraries play fine?
